Montreal, QC (Jan. 30 2019) –– Les Canadiennes de Montréal and the Calgary Inferno will face off for what promises to be an exciting showcase between the top two teams in the CWHL on Saturday, Feb. 2 at 5pm and Sunday, Feb. 3 at 1:30pm at the Bell Sports Complex in Brossard.

Saturday’s game will be livestreamed on the CWHL broadcast here.

With a total of 16 Olympians on both clubs, the matchup will be electrifying. Eighteen players, including seven from Les Canadiennes and 11 from the Inferno, have recently been named to the USA-Canada Rivalry Series taking place in February. Moreover, it will be Calgary’s first set of games since two of their players, Brianna Decker and Rebecca Johnston, made waves at the 2019 NHL All-Star Game Weekend. Les Canadiennes’ Hilary Knight also took part in the 2018 NHL Skills Competition’s accuracy test.

The race for first place is tight as Les Canadiennes, who officially clinched a playoff spot this week, are only two points behind the Inferno with 33 points. Montreal’s offence and defence continue to shine as the team has scored the most goals (92) and allowed the least goals (31) in the CWHL. Captain Marie-Philip Poulin sits atop of the standings with 40 points, while Ann-Sophie Bettez is second with 38 points. In seventh, Erin Ambrose remains the leading offensive-defence in the league with 23 points and Jill Saulnier sits ninth with 21 points.

Meanwhile, the Inferno rose to the top of the standings after posting an impressive eight-game win streak through the first half of the season. With players like Johnston, Brianne Jenner and Rebecca Leslie, who are among the CWHL’s top-10 scorers, the Inferno can count on a talented and skilled group of players.

The battle will also feature two of the league’s top goalies with Emerance Maschmeyer and Alex Rigsby neck and neck this weekend.
