TORONTO, ON (Nov. 15, 2018) – The Canadian Women’s Hockey League (CWHL), in partnership with the Toronto Maple Leafs Hockey Club, announced today that the City of Toronto will play host to the two most anticipated events in professional women’s hockey this season – the 2019 CWHL All-Star game and the Clarkson Cup Final.
“We’re so excited to bring the world’s best female hockey players to Toronto, where all sports fans will have the opportunity to witness the world’s top talent in one place. The Toronto Maple Leafs have been invaluable to our development as we continue to set the standard for professional women’s hockey. Throughout the weekend’s festivities, the CWHL will leave a lasting impression on the City of Toronto and its fans,” said Interim Commissioner, Jayna Hefford.
“The Toronto Maple Leafs are proud partners of the CWHL and are committed to the continued development of women’s hockey,” said Toronto Maple Leafs President and Alternate Governor, Brendan Shanahan. “The CWHL All-star game and Clarkson Cup Final are great opportunities for star players to showcase their skills and bring new fans to the league and women’s hockey in Canada.”
Scotiabank Arena will host the CWHL All-Star game on Sunday, January 20, 2019. The All-Star rosters will feature the league’s top 34 players and will include athletes who have recently represented their countries at the Olympics, the Four Nations tournament and World Championships. This marks the fourth consecutive time the showcase game has taken place inside the home of the Toronto Maple Leafs (note – the CWHL All-Star game did not take place during the 2017-18 season due to the 2018 PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games).
The Clarkson Cup weekend also returns to Toronto and will see the Championship Game taking place on Sunday, March 24, 2019 at Coca-Cola Coliseum, home of the Toronto Marlies. The top two teams will put the regular season behind them and compete for the prestigious Clarkson Cup.
Tickets for both events will go on sale in early December and both will be broadcast nationwide on Sportsnet.
