LES CANADIENNES UP FOR AWARDS AT THE GALA SPORT QUÉBEC

The 45th Gala Sport Québec will be underway this Thursday evening at the Sheraton Hotel in Laval and several members of Les Canadiennes could walk away with prestigious awards.

Head coach Dany Brunet is nominated for Coach of the Year (team sports). Brunet became the most successful coach in CWHL history after capturing his 76th victory in November 2017. He led Les Canadiennes to their eighth Chairman’s Trophy in team history with a first-place finish last season.

Mélodie Daoust, who captured silver at the Pyeongchang Winter Games, is nominated for Best Athlete in a team sport on the international level. She led Team Canada with seven points (three goals, four assists) at the Olympics and was named Tournament MVP. Daoust was drafted in the first round to Les Canadiennes in the 2017 CWHL Draft, and will join the club next season.

Finally, Les Canadiennes received a nomination for Team of the Year. With 22 wins last season, the team reached new heights, hosting their second game at the Bell Centre and traveling to China for the first time to face the Kunlun Red Star and Vanke Rays. Several players reached personal bests: captain Ann-Sophie Bettez hit the 100-goal plateau, and veteran forwards Caroline Ouellette and Noémie Marin established new all-time CWHL goal records (132).

The gala will be broadcast on RDS. Individuals who wish to attend can purchase tickets here.
