Montreal, QC (Mar. 18, 2018) ––– Jenna McParland scored a hat trick to lead the Markham Thunder past Les Canadiennes in Game 2 of the 2018 Clarkson Cup semi-final Saturday night at the Bell Sports Complex in Brossard.

With the sweep, the Thunder advance to the Clarkson Cup final, which will take place on Mar. 25 in Toronto’s Ricoh Coliseum. Markham will face the winner of the Kunlun Red Star and the Calgary Inferno series.

It was the first time a Les Canadiennes-Thunder game ended in regulation this season, as the previous six games required extra time.

Sarah Lefort scored Montreal’s lone goal in the first period. The lead was short-lived as McParland scored her first goal of the night to tie up the game less than 20 seconds later.

The second period remained scoreless, with Markham and Montreal creating quality scoring chances on both ends of the ice. The heated rivalry between both teams led to a total of 10 penalties. McParland scored Markham’s game-winner on the powerplay in the third period and completed her hat trick past the halfway mark of the frame. Jamie Lee Rattray added an empty-netter.

Three stars: 1. Jenna McParland 2. Erica Howe 3. Emerance Maschmeyer
