Montreal, QC (Feb. 20, 2019) –– Les Canadiennes de Montréal are honoured to announce that the popular Québecois singer and breast cancer survivor, Lulu Hughes, will sing the national anthem for the Feb 23rd Pink in the Rink game to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer. CWHL Commissioner Jayna Hefford, a recent inductee to the Hockey Hall of Fame, will also take part in the ceremonial puck drop.

“I think it’s a great event, a group of strong women doing something so special to support women with breast cancer, I am happy to be a part of it,” said Mme Hughes.

Diagnosed three years ago, in March Mme Hughes will celebrate two years since her final treatment for breast cancer. An ambassador for the Fondation cancer du sein du Québec she is also the spokesperson for La Ride de Filles, an annual motorbike ride dedicated to women battling breast cancer.

“It’s really an honour for us to have Mme Hughes lend her powerful voice and her great positive energy and presence to this event,” said Les Canadiennes’ GM Meg Hewings. “Breast cancer survivors will be our invited dignitaries for all aspects of the opening ceremonies, as flag bearers, dropping the puck for the ceremonial face-off, and Mme Hughes singing the anthem. They all put a human face to this cause that we care so much about.”

“With this game we pay tribute to the strength and courage of the women who battle breast cancer, and all those who support them, and we want people to see that a vibrant and fulfilling life is possible after a breast cancer diagnosis,” added Les Canadiennes’ Community Outreach Director, Fiona Robinson. “Mme Hughes, and all of our survivor dignitaries, are a true inspiration to our organization.”

The Feb. 23 matchup between Les Canadiennes de Montréal and the reigning Clarkson Cup Champions, the Markham Thunder, marks the ninth annual Pink in the Rink Game in support of the MUHC Breast Clinic. The game is part of a double-header with the Laval Rocket, who take on the Manitoba Moose at 3pm. Les Canadiennes have raised over $ 100 000 for breast cancer in Quebec in the eight previous editions, and over $ 20 000 last season alone. A silent auction featuring collectible women’s hockey items, such as unique game-worn signed commemorative pink jerseys will be complemented by an online auction of the hottest collectibles (eBay identifier: LesCanadiennesBreastCancer).

The next annual Ride de Filles will be July 11, 2019. For more information:
